Make no mistake: inactivity is deadly! The evidence is undeniable: regular
physical activity, or “exercise”, is one of the best things you can do to
enhance your quality of life and preserve your ability to do the things that
give meaning to your life. One of the kindest things you can do for others is to
encourage them to be physically active.
Dorothy Garske Center, a private non-profit organization, conducts the Get
Fit-Stay Fit Challenge to promote healthy exercise activities among older
adults. The Challenge is a motivational activity aimed at encouraging and
recognizing regular exercise as a means to improve the quality of life of
seniors.
Dorothy Garske Center's goal for the Challenge is to help more people remain
physically active week-in and week-out, year-in and year-out. Participants take
part in their favorite exercise activity (walking, jogging, biking, swimming,
etc.) in their own community. All exercisers are encouraged to choose safe and
beneficial fitness/exercise activities. The excuse of "being out-of-town"
doesn't work as each participant has their own Challenge Log to record exercise
activity wherever they are! Using motivational “fitness” themes, groups,
individuals, and whole communities are encouraged to record their activity,
using their personal Challenge Log and their Community’s Challenge Banner to get
fit and stay fit as they take the Challenge! Prizes, Incentives, Group Awards,
and an Award of Completion are all part of the Challenge program.

This calendar will be in an active state of updates, as we head into the Challenge season. We will list community kickoff dates and times through the open registration timeline of 31-January, 2007. Challenge Award programs take place March 8 - mid-May, 2007. Communities can begin scheduling their Award events anytime. It’s always good to get on the Challenge calendar sooner than later to get your first choice of the date you want to celebrate!
Who’s Who will be in an active state of updates through the open registration timeline of 31-January, 2007. Who’s Who will be active in two ways: check in to find out the communities which are taking the Challenge and …to find out the number of participants in each Challenge community! Let’s Go for the Gold!
